Language Mediation (L-12)

The course of study in Language Mediation (Socio – Linguistic area, L-12) prepares students to become professionals with a solid preparation in foreign languages and a specialization in a field among the most in – demand ones in the employment market.

 

As a matter of fact, starting from the first year, students attend specializations courses in the economic, legal and sociolinguistic fields while learning up to foreign languages, choosing among western languages (English, French, German, Spanish) and Afro-Asian and Middle-Eastern languages (Arabic, Russian and Chinese).

At Ciels, practice is a fundamental element of each student’s training: from continuous exercises and real simulations for translating and interpreting, to workshops and lectures held by professionals from the national University scene and world of work, to the internship, which helps students to face their first real work experience.

 

Study plans are constantly updated, so students are ready both to enter the world of work or continue their training by accessing master’s degrees or postgraduate studies in Italy or abroad.

The degree program includes

1. Language activities

Language activities aimed at consolidating language and oral and written linguistic skills related to the languages chosen by the student, as well as to acquire the required knowledge for the intercultural and interlingual Mediation.

2. Translation activities

Translation activities - or written language mediation - of texts of different nature (topical, institutional, specialist texts) related to the curricula chosen, integrated and supported by modern assisted translation technologies and software.

3. Interpretation activities

Interpretation activities (optional), consecutive and simultaneous interpreting techniques - mainly focused to teach how to process and reformulate topics from a source language to the target language.

4. Curricula courses

Curricula teachings of economic, legal, socio-linguistic nature, functional to the scope of the planned activities, as well as disciplines connected to the needs of our territory.

5. Single course units

Single course units chosen by the student, in particular academic courses available at Ciels or in other Italian or foreign university institutions falling within the scope of stipulated agreements, or courses relating to a third foreign language.

6. Training internship

Training internship in companies, institutions, public, political and cultural administrations as well as in Italian and foreign universities.

7. Final dissertation

The Final Dissertation represents the arrival point of the academic education, but also the starting point for the professional career of a new graduate.
